FERMILAB-CONF-12-382-APCCOMMISSIONNINGOFA1.3-GHZDEFLECTINGCAVITYFORPHASESPACEEXCHANGEATTHEARGONNEWAKEFIELDACCELERATOR∗1,1,1,3,y1,1,ea4,4,5†,1,i4,2,11High-Energy-PhysicsDivision,ArgonneNationalLaboratory,Lemont,IL60439,USA2EngineeringPhysicsDepartment,TsinghuaUniversity,China3EuclidTechLabs,Solon,Ohio44139,USA4DepartmentofPhysics,NorthernIllinoisUniversity,DeKalb,IL60115,USA5AcceleratorPhysicsCenter,FermiNationalAcceleratorLaboratory,Batavia,IL60510,USAAbstractA1/2-1-1/2cellnormal-conducting1.3-GHzdeflectingcavitywasrecentlyinstalledattheArgonneWakefiitywilleventuallybeincludedinatransverse-to-longitudinalphasespaceexchangerthatwilleventuallybeusedtoshapethecurrentprofileofAWAelectronbunchesinsupportofdielectricwakefipaperwereportontheinitialcommissioningofthedeflectingcavityincludingrf-conditioningandbeam-basedmeasurementofthedefl1:Geometry(a)andpicture(b)erimposedfalse-colorpatternrepresentsthevalueoftheEzfieldinthe(x=0,y,z)plane(theblueandredcolorsrespectivelycorrespondtothemaximumandminimumvaluesofthefield).INTRODUCTIONDeflectingcavitieshavefoundanincreasingnumberofapplicationsinacceleratorsincludingparticle-speciessepa-ration[1],beamswitchyards[2],longitudinalphasespacecharacterization[3,4,5]andadvancedphasespacema-nipulations[6,7].AttheArgonneWakefieldAccelera-tor(AWA)[8]plansareunderwaytodevelopatransverse-to-longitudinalphase-space-exchanger(PEX)beamline[9,10]andexploreitsapplicationstoenhancetheperfor-mancesofcollinearbeam-drivendielectric-wakefitely,thisPEXbeamlinewillbeusedtotailorthecurrentprofileofthedrivebunchinordertomax-imizethetransformerratio[11,12,13].ApossibleconfigurationforaPEXbeamlineconsistsofatransverse-deflectingcavity(TDC)flankedbytwodisper-sivesectionsarrangedasdoglegs[9,10,14].TheTDCisnominallyoperatedatthezero-crossingphaseofthefieldsothattheheucedshearinganddispersionoccurinthesameplane(takentobethehorizontalplanehenceforth).TheTM110-likeTDCoper-atesat1.3GHzandconsistsof1/2-1-1/2cells;iceoftheTDCcellsgeometrywasmotivatedbytheminimizationofthebeam’scentroidmotionatzero-crossingoperation[15].workwassupportedbyDOEawardsFG-02-08ER41532withNorthernIllinoisUniversity,DE-AC02-06CH11357withArgonneNa-tionalLaboratory,andDE-SC0006301withEuclidTechLabs,LLC.†***************.edu∗ThisEXPERIMENTALSETUPAsafirststeptowardbuildingthePEXbeamline,onlytheupstreamdoglegandatransversedeflectingcavity(TDC)wereinstalled[17].TheTDCwasorientedtode-flect(and/orshear)thebeamalontupprovidesasingle-shotLPSdiagnosticwhileenablingthecommissioningandcharacterizationofthekeycom-ponentsnecessaryforthePEXbeamline;ndiagnosticsusedfortheresultspresentedbelowisaCerium-doppedYttriumAluminumGarnet(YAG)screenlocatedatadistanceL=0.63mdownstreamoftheTDC’itywaspoweredwithanewlycommissioned30-MWklystron(klystron2)whiletheotherAWAradiofre-quency(rf)components(therfgunandonepi/218-cellboostercavity)werepoweredwiththenominal25-MWklystron(klystron1).Forthesetofmeasurementsre-portedbelow,thebeamenergyandchargewererespec-tivelyE
