“贫困”是最大的“问题”

子曰：邦有道，贫且贱焉，耻也;邦无道，富且贵焉，耻也。In a country well governed，

poverty is something to be ashamed of. In a country badly governed， wealth is something to be

ashamed of.

曼德拉则说：As long as poverty， injustice and gross inequality persist in our world， none of

us can truly rest.只要世界上存在贫困、不公以及不均，我们所有人都无法安宁。

无论是“邦有道”时的贫贱之耻，还是贫困导致的惴惴不安，都说明贫困是个大问题。或正

因此，我们国家十分重视扶贫工作，政治文件中也经常出现与“贫困”紧密相关的表述。今天，

我们一起看看用英文该如何传递此类意思。

1. 扶贫 poverty relief、poverty alleviation

2. 赤贫 abject poverty
