On a serious note, what do we learn from debating?

认真点说，我们从辩论中学到了什么？

I find the answer in your superb performance in this morning. I see in all the contestants, the

quality of being aspiring, adaptable, and absorbed. Three A’s.

我在你们今天早上的精彩表演中找到了答案。在我看来，所有的参赛者身上都有三个顶级品

质：有抱负，适应能力强，专注。三个A。

The first A, aspiring. Before I joined the debating team as a student of English language and

literature, life was all about poems, dictionaries, and novels.

第一个A，有抱负。在我作为英语语言和文学专业的学生加入辩论队之前，生活里全是诗歌、

字典和小说。

The debating experience opened a window to a wider world.

辩论经历为我通往更广阔的世界打开了一扇窗。

All the different topics sent me thinking hard what, why, when, where and how.

所有不同的主题都让我认真思考什么、为什么、何时、何地以及如何。

I began to listen to domestic and international news stories, not just to learn new vocabulary, but

to get a glimpse of what was happening around the world, and try to piece together all the

puzzles.

我开始听国内外的新闻故事，不仅仅是为了学习新词汇，而是为了了解世界各地正在发生的

事情，并尝试拼凑解决所有的谜题。

Debating nurtures an inquisitive mind, and a compassionate heart.

辩论可以培养好奇心和共情能力。

You wake up every morning with a genuine interest to explore and embrace something new to

excel at school, at work, in life, full of the hope and drive for a larger purpose.

每天早上醒来，你都会怀着真正的兴趣去探索和拥抱新事物，以便在学校、工作和生活中表

现出色，充满希望地为更大的目标而努力。

Second A, adaptable. Each debate involves two sides, affirmative and negative.

第二A，适应性强。每场辩论都涉及两个方面，肯定的和否定的。

Every debater has to adapt to the role then and there.

每个辩手都必须适应当时的角色。

And for the seven minutes on the stage, we give it our best shot.

在舞台上的七分钟里，我们尽了最大的努力。

All the world’s a stage, and all the men and women merely players. To become the best that you

can be, you need to give it to your all.

整个世界是一个舞台，所有的男人女人都只是球员。为了成为最好的自己，你需要全力以赴。

And third A, absorbed. Prepare to dove deeper into the ocean of knowledge.

第三个A，专注。准备好深入知识的海洋。

I guess most of you have heard such a wise proverb from your dad, your mom or your teacher.

Oh, practice makes perfect. More or less the similar wisdom, believe it or not, it's better to act on

it.

我想你们中的大多数人都从你的爸爸、妈妈或你的老师那里听说过这样一句明智的谚语：熟

能生巧。听过或多或少类似的智慧箴言，信不信由你，不如行动起来吧。
