Deny/refuse与“拒绝”

本组动词都有“拒绝”意思，但用法不同：

1、deny含义较广，有“拒绝、否认、不承认、节制、摒弃”等含义。主要搭配如下：

①deny +名词/doing ，意为“否认、不承认”。如：

He didn't deny the facts.他不否认事实。

She denied knowing anything about the coming examination.她否认她知道关

于下次考试的任何事情。

注意：deny不接动词不定式作宾语，但可接不定式作宾语补足语。如：

The lawyer denied this to be the case.律师否认这是事实。

②deny + that从句，意为“否认(某事或某说法)”。如：

The driver denied that he was responsible for the car accident.司机不承认在这

次车祸中的责任。

③deny +sb. sth.，意为“拒绝给予”。如：

④deny + oneself +名词，意为“拒不、舍弃”。如：

The famous poet lived in a quiet countryside and denied himself to any visitors.

2、 refuse表示坚决甚至无礼貌地拒绝接受某物或做某事;此外，可表示拒绝给予。主

要搭配如下：

①refuse +名词，意为“拒绝……”。如：

He refused my offer of help.他拒绝了我的帮助。

②refuse sb. sth.，意为“拒绝某人某物”。如：

I just can’t refuse my granddaughter anything.我就是无法拒绝我孙女的任何要

求。

③refuse to do sth.，意为“拒绝做某事”。

Some university students from the countryside refused to take any donation.

一些农村来的大学生拒绝接受任何捐款。
