1. Uncle Sam is a common national personification of the American government that according to

legend came into use during the War of 1812 and was supposedly named for Samuel Wilson.

2. You can see the “Uncle Sam” and his vivid image in almost all U.S. newspapers and magazines .In

different painter’s pen ,”Uncle Sam” looks very different: some abomination and some amiable . But

the most common image we can see is an elderly man with white hair and a goatee wearing a white top

hat with white stars on a blue band, and red and white striped trousers.

3. The most famous poster of “Uncle Sam” was painted by James Montgomery

Flagg. He has created lots of famous paintings during the World War.

4. Uncle Sam is one of the most popular personifications of the United States who as famous as the

Statue of Liberty. An elderly man with white hair and a goatee wearing a white top hat with white stars on

5. Sam Wilson was a meat packer in New York, who supplied rations for the soldiers. They had to stamp

their contractors name and where the rations were coming from, onto the food they were sending. On

the package, it was labeled “E.A – US.”

6. When someone asked what that stood for, a coworker joked and said “Elbert Anderson (the

contractor) and Uncle Sam,” referring to Sam Wilson, though it actually stood for United States.

national quality.
