每到秋天，很多树叶就会逐渐变黄，接着枯萎、然后从枝头飘落。

而人一旦到了晚年，也如同秋天里的植物，身体机能也会逐渐变弱。

因此 autumn years 不是秋日时光，而是人们的晚年时光，这个

词语特指退休后的晚年生活。

老年人用英语怎么说？

old man 丈夫；爸爸

老人不能说 old man，这个表达既可以指老爸，也可以翻译为老

公，就是没有老人的意思。

为了保持礼貌，我们也不应该用 old people 称呼老人，下面这些

英文表达才是合适的称呼。

seniors 长辈；年长的人；老人

senior citizens 老人

elders 长辈

elderly relatives 年长的亲戚

old 的含义是老的， old people 可能被误解为你在说别人太年迈

了。而 senior 和 elderly 表示年纪更大的更年长的，含有尊敬的意味，

听上去更礼貌。

senior 既是名词，也是形容词，所以老人既可以说 seniors，也

可以翻译为 senior citizens.

in the dead of winter ≠ 死在冬天

in the dead of winter 在寒冬；隆冬

in the dead of night 在深夜

这里的 dead 表示的不是死亡，而是中间，可以替换为 middle.

因为middle night 是深夜，所以 in the dead of night 也是在深夜。

隆冬也被称为深冬，是冬天最冷的一段时期，所以 in the dead of

winter 的含义 就是在隆冬。
