Of 短语用法大全

1 ． of + 抽象名词 = 形容词，表示主语的特征或性质。如

果意思上需要，抽象名词前面常可加 some, little, no, any 和

great 等修饰语。例如：

The problem is of great importance. = The problem is very im

portant. 这个问题很重要。

He is a man of action. = He is an active man. 他很活跃。

It is of some help to you. = It is rather helpful to you. 这对你

相当有用。

These shoes are of service. = These shoes are serviceable. 这

双鞋子耐穿。

The data will be of no value to them. = The data will be value

less to them. 这些资料对他们不会有用。

2 ． be of + 物质名词 =be made/built of 。例如：

3 ． be of + 集合名词 = belong to 。例如：

Workers and peasants are of one family. = Workers and peasa

nts belong to one family. 工农是一家。

We are of the same class. =We belong to the same class. 我们

是同一个班的同学。

4 ． be of +the + 形容词最高级 + 复数名词

=be one of +the + 形容词最高级 + 复数名词。例如：

He is of the shortest pupils in our class. =He is one of the shor

test pupils in our class. 他是我们班里个子最矮的学生之一。

5 ．“ be of +one's + 动名词”表示“某人亲自做某事”。例

如：

The dish is of my (own) cooking. 这道菜是我亲自烧的。

Is this the tree of your planting? 这是你亲手栽的树吗？

The bridge is of the villagers' own building. 这座桥是村民们

自己动手修建的。

6 ．“ of +a(n)+ 名词”在句中作表语时，表示“同样的”之

义。例如：

They are of an age. 他们同岁。

These boxes are of a size. 这些盒子一样大小。

The two pens are of a price. 这两支钢笔价格相同。

We are of a mind. 我们同一条心。

7 ．“名词 +of+ 另一个名词的属格”是双重属格结构，表

示所有关系；“名词 +of + 另一个名词”表示第一个名词对第

二个名词的所属关系。试比较：

On the wall hangs a portrait of his father's. 墙上挂着他父亲

收藏的一张肖像画。

On the wall hangs a portrait of his father. 墙上挂着他父亲本

人的一张肖像画。

This is a criticism of your teacher's. 这是你的老师（对人

家）的批评。

8 ．“指示代词 / 不定代词 / 数词 + 名词 +of + 名词属格”

可用来表示“赞赏，欣喜，厌恶”等情绪。例如：

I hate that pride of his brother's . 我讨厌他哥哥的那种傲慢

态度。

Two friends of her sister's will come to join us. 她姐姐的两

个朋友会来加入我们的行列的。

This is no fault of Xiao Lin's. 这决不是小林的过错。

That performance of the teachers' was wonderful. 老师们的

那个节目很精彩。

9 ．“名词 +of+ 名词”中， of 前面的名词前面加上不定冠

词或代词，与 of 一起相当于一个形容词，用来修饰后一个

名词，作“像……样的”解； of 后面的名词前面多加不定冠

词，也可将其变成复数形式。这种结构是文学语言中的一

种修辞手段。例如：

He has passed through a sea of troubles. 他经历了无数的困

难。

He waved a hammer of a fist to the thief. 他对小偷挥动铁锤

般的拳头。

Mary is a boy of a girl. 玛丽是个像男孩一样的女孩。

His angel of a wife has a rapier of a tongue. 他天使般的妻

子，口舌似剑。

He has a mountain of debts to pay. 他债台高筑。

We hated that rascal of a landlord. 我们痛恨那个恶棍似的

地主。

10 ．“不定代词 +of +a(n)+ 名词”可表示“有……风度”之

义。例如：

He seems to be much of a gentleman. 他很有绅士风度。

She is nothing of a musician. 她全无音乐家的气质。

11 ．“形容词 +of + 名词”可在句中作表语或后置定语用。

这是一种描绘性的修饰手段。例如：

The house is tall of columns, wide of verandah, flat of roof.

这房子高柱，宽台，平顶。

It was a frightening face, pointed of chin, square of jaw. 这是

一张吓人的脸庞，尖下巴，方下腭。

12 ．在“名词 +of+ 代词宾格”这种结构中， of 前面的名词

应是能用感官觉察到的纯粹的外部特征。例如：

I don't like the haggard look of her. 我不喜欢她那憔悴的脸

色。

What a sight of you! 你这样子多怪呀！

Have you ever met the like of him? 你遇到过像他这样的人

吗？

Look at the size of him. 你瞧他那身材。

13 ．下面四种 of-phrase 都可以表示最高程度的人、物的

属性。例如：

a. “ of + 形容词最高级”作表语用。例如；

His temper is of the quickest. 他的脾气极其暴躁。

You description was of the vaguest. 你的叙述非常含糊。

b. “形容词最高级 +of + the + 同一个形容词的原级已名词

化”也可在句中作表语用。例如：

He was the bravest of the brave in the battle. 他在战斗中最

最勇敢。

c. “形容词最高级 + of + 复数名词或抽象名词”可在句中作

表语，也可在句中作其他成分。例如：

Mr. Wang is the most generous of men. 王先生为人极其慷

慨大方。

We must handle the problem with the greatest of care. 我们一

定要极其谨慎地处理这个问题。

d. “单数名词 +of + 同一名词的复数形式”可在句中作表

语，也可在句中作其他万分。例如：

I'm confronted with a difficulty of difficulties. 我面临着最最

难以解决的问题。

He is an Englishman of Englishmen. 他是个十分典型的英国

人。
