Long ago, a beast called "Nian" (年) terrorized villages on the eve of

the new year, eating crops, livestock, and even people. One year, an old

man appeared and chased Nian away with loud noises from firecrackers,

drums, and gongs. From then on, people celebrated the arrival of the

new year with these noisy traditions, wearing red and hanging lanterns

to scare off Nian. This became known as the Chinese New Year.

这个故事讲的是很久以前，一个叫做“年”的怪兽在新年前夕恐

吓村庄，吃掉庄稼、牲畜甚至人。有一年，一位老人出现了，他用鞭

炮、鼓和锣的巨大声响赶走了年。从那时起，人们用这些吵闹的传统

The Story of the Dragon Boat Festival (龙舟节的传说)

The Dragon Boat Festival (端午节) commemorates Qu Yuan, a loyal

minister in ancient China who was falsely accused and thrown into the

Miluo River. Villagers tried to save him by beating drums and throwing

rice dumplings into the river to feed the fish and prevent them from

eating Qu Yuan's body. The tradition of dragon boat races and eating rice

dumplings continues to this day.

这个故事讲的是端午节是为了纪念古代中国的一位忠诚的大臣

屈原，他被诬陷并被扔进汨罗江。村民们试图通过敲鼓和向河里扔粽

子来救他，喂鱼，防止它们吃掉屈原的身体。划龙舟和吃粽子的传统

The Legend of the Chinese Valentine's Day (七夕节的传说)

The Chinese Valentine's Day (七夕节), also known as the Qixi

Festival, comes from a legend about Zhinü (织女), a weaver girl who was

separated from her lover, Niulang (牛郎), a cowherd, by the Queen

Mother of the Heavenly Kingdom. Once a year, on the seventh day of the

seventh lunar month, magpies form a bridge in the sky to reunite Zhinü

and Niulang. This day is celebrated as the Festival of Love.

这个故事讲的是中国的情人节，也称七夕节，源于一个关于织女

和牛郎的传说。织女是一个织女，与她的情人牛郎（一个牛郎）被天

国的王母娘娘分开。每年农历七月初七，喜鹊会在天上搭起一座桥，
