act与action的区别

act除了用作动词之外，还可以用作名词，故很易与另一名词action混淆不清。它们

之间有下列几点区别：

1.一般说来，act指具体的行动；action指抽象的行为。

大都指短暂的、简单的动作；action大都指较长的、复杂的行为。例如我们只

能说the action of a machine,而不能说the act of a machine。

3.在下列场合里，只能用act，不能用action，例如the act of cruelty, folly, mercy,

God(天灾)，jumping, stealing, walking, kindness, madness,...。

4.在下列场合里，只能用action，不能用act，例如to take action, in speech and

action, a man of action, put into action, ready for action, to come(bring)into

action,...。在某些习语和表示“作用”的意义时，也只能用action,不用act。例如：1Actions

speak louder than words.2chemical action 化学作用，capillary action毛管作用，the

action of light(heat)光(热)的作用,……。

值得注意的是，有时候act和action之间的界限并不是很清楚的，例如在下列句中，

act和action可以替换使用：

His heroic act (action) was long remembered.

We are judged by our acts (actions).

act

The pickpocket was caught in the act.这扒手在偷东西的时候被抓住。

It is an act of folly.这是一件愚蠢的事。

In the act of picking up the ball, he slipped and fell.在拾球的时候，他滑倒了。

It is an act of kindness to help the old woman to do something.帮助这位老大娘

做事情是一种良好的举动。

action

Don't take free action.不要采取自由行动。

He is a man of action.他是一个很活跃的人。

His actions do not live up to his words.他的言行不符。

Suit the action to the word, and the word to the action.言行要一致。

含有action的谚语和格言很多，例如：

Strong in action, gentle in method.
