Unit 1 We’re still influenced by Confucius’s ideas.我们仍然受到孔子思想的影响

要点全解：

1. I want to join an Internet group to discuss great books by great writers. 我想加入一个互联网

群来讨论由著名作家写的名著。

discuss及物动词，意为“讨论，谈论”。其后可接名词、动词-ing形式和wh-从句。

如：We should discuss the problem face to face.我们应该面对面地讨论这个问题。

They discuss when to go (=when they should go).他们商量了什么时候动身。

【拓展】discussion是discuss的名词形式，意为“讨论，议论”，其常用短语有：

Have a discussion进行讨论 under discussion在讨论中

2. Well, each of us reads a favourite book and writes a review for the discussion.噢，我们每个人

读一本最喜爱的书并为讨论写一篇评论。

Each作代词，意为“每个，各个”。可单独做主语，也可后接“of + 复数名词（或代词”

作主语，其谓语动词用单数形式。若用做同位语，须放在主语的后面，主语用复数形式。

如：Each of them has a new book.他们每个人都有一本书。

They each want to get the ball.他们每个人都想得到那个球。

【拓展】（1）each用作定语，修饰可数名词单数。 如：Each student has a dictionary.每个学

生都有一本词典。

（2）each 可作副词，意为“各自地”，常放在动词之后或句末。如：The tickets are ten yuan

each.这些票每张10元。

辨析：each与every

each 用于两者或两者以上中的每一个，强调个Each of the students has a new bike.

体，可用作副词或代词，可作定语、状语、=The students each have a new bike.

主语和同位语 =The students have a new bike each.

=Each student has a new bike.

每个学生都有一辆自行车。

用于三者或三者以上的每一个，强调整体。Every student has a new bike. every

用于形容词，作定语。 每个学生都有一辆自行车

’re still influenced by Confucius ideas, and Shakespeare’s plays also make a lot of sense to us

today.直到今天我们还受到孔子思想的影响，莎士比亚的戏剧现在对我们来说也仍然很有意

义。

（1）influence此处用作动词，意为“影响“。be influenced by 意为“受到……的影响”。

如：Don’t let me influence your decision.不要让我影响你的决定。

【拓展】influence可作可数名词，意为“影响”。

如：Television has a strong influence on people.电视对人们影响很大。

（2）make a lot of sense to sb.意为“对某人很有意义”。Make sense意为“有意义”。Sense

作不可数名词，意为“道理；意义；合理性”。

如：This sentence doen’t make any sense.这个句子没有意义。

It would make sense to leave early.还是早点儿离开好。

4. By the way, what do you think of Mark Twain, the great American writer in the nineteenth

century? 顺便问一下，你认为19世纪美国的著名作家马克·吐温怎么样？

by the way意为“顺便提一下，顺便问一下”。

例如：By the way, do you find your lost keys? 顺便问一下，你找到你丢失的钥匙了吗？

By the way, I have something to tell you. 顺便说一下，我有件事要告诉你。

5. suppose推测，猜测。其常见用法如下：

（1）猜想，推测 如：I suppose he’ll come back now. 我想他这会儿该回来了。

（2）认为，以为 如：What do you suppose I will do?你认为我会做什么？

（3）意味着；说明 如：The number of the cars suppose that the city traffic would get busier and

busier.这些汽车的数量意味着城市交通会越来越繁忙。

（4）be supposed to do sth.应该做某事 如：You’re supposed to hand in your homework on

time.你应该按时上交作业。

Unit 2 It is still read and loved.它仍然被阅读和喜爱。

要点全解：

1. He and his best friend, Huck Finn, run away to an island in the middle of the Mississippi River.

他和他的最好的朋友哈克·芬恩逃到密西西北河中部的一个岛上。

（1）run away 意为“逃走，逃跑”。 如：The thief ran away quickly.小偷迅速逃跑了。

（2）in the middle of 意为“在……的中间，在……的中部”。可用来表示地点和时间。

如：He is boating in the middle of the river.他在河中间划船。

She came in the middle of the day.她在中午的时候来了

2. Everyone is surprised to see them at first, but very pleased to find that they are alive.刚开始，大

家看到他们都很惊讶，但是发现他们还活着（每个人都）很高兴。

（1）pleased形容词，意为“高兴的，满意的”，常构成短语：be pleased with sb./sth.“对某

人/某物满意”，be pleased to do sth.“对做某事感到高兴”，be pleased with oneself“洋洋得意”。

如：The young and the old are pleased with the plan.年轻人和老人都对这个计划感到满意。
