These are four famous tourist attractions around the world.
The Forbidden City
The Forbidden City in Beijing, China, was completed in 1420 during the early Ming Dynasty. It is
the largest ancient palatial (

closes during winter, so make sure it’s open before visiting.
The Little Mermaid
The Little Mermaid is a statue in Copenhagen, Denmark. It sits on a roc kin the harbor. It was
inspired by a performance of a ballet based on the fairytale The Little Mermaid by Hans Christian
Andersen. It was presented to the public on 23 August, 1913. And there are many tourists taking

Finally came Wednesday! I walked onto campus (

on these same grounds for two years because my junior high school is next door. Everything looked
and felt different now that I was in senior high.
B
.
The Taj Mahal
D
.
The Little Mermaid.
I looked at my schedule (
时间表
). First period-German. Our German teacher was very friendly and I
liked her from the beginning. What I didn’t like, though, was that I was surrounded by students from
other grades, with only five familiar faces.
Then I had to walk all the way across campus and up three flights of stairs to get to my second
period- biology. Our biology teacher is Ms Campeau, and I think that she will teach us a lot this year
because she is very to the point. She also has her unique way of saying “be quiet”; she says
“alligator”. She explained that she is the king, or should I say queen, of the class because alligators
are the “king of the swamps(
沼泽
)”.
My third class was English. After surviving two periods without too much of a challenge, I began to
feel good. However, the third period changed everything. Mr Valassidis, my English teacher, told us
that we would have to write 40 essays (
文章
) and read AP-level books such as The Odyssey this
year. I love reading and writing, but 40 ESSAYS?AP-level books? Now I was scared. He also talked
about how important it was to be focused. Last year was not a very “focused” year for me. While
doing homework, I was often talking on the phone, or busy with a conversation online. I planned on
stepping it up this year because I wanted to stay an honour(
荣誉
) student.

As you grow older, you’ll be faced with some challenging decisions-like whether to cut class or try
cigarettes. Making decisions on your own is hard enough, but when other people get involved and
try to pressure you one way or another, it can be even harder. People who are at your age, like your
classmates, are called peers. When they try to influence how you act, or get you to do something, it’s
called peer pressure.
Peers can have a positive influence on each other. Maybe another student in your science class
taught you an easy way to remember the planets in the solar system (
太阳系
). Maybe you got others
excited about your new favourite book, and now everyone’s reading it. These are examples of how
peers positively influence each other.
B
.
She found the class demanding.
D
.
She did poorly at school.
Sometimes peers influence each other in negative ways. For example, a few kids in school might try
to get you to cut class with them; your soccer friend might try to convince (
说服
) you to be mean
(
吝啬,小气
) to another player and never pass him the ball.
It is tough to be the only one who says “no” to peer pressure, but you can do it. Paying attention to
your own feelings and beliefs about what is right and wrong can help you know the right thing to do.
You’ve probably had a parent or teacher advising you to “choose your friends wisely” Peer pressure
is a big reason why they say this. If you choose friends who don’t cut class, smoke cigarettes, or lie
to their parents, then you probably won’t do these things either, even if other kids do.
If you continue to face peer pressure and you’re finding it difficult to handle, talk to someone you
trust. Don’t feel guilty (
内疚
) if you’ve made a mistake or two.

important for me to keep up with education. So she decided to teach me lessons herself. However,
because she had to go to work, the only time she could do it was at 4:30 in the morning.
We need every one of you to develop your talents (
天赋
) and your skills so that you can help us old
folks solve our most difficult problems. If you quit (
放弃
) school-you’re not just quitting yourself,
but you’re quitting your country. No one’s written your destiny (
命运
)for you, because you write
your own destiny. You make your own future. That’s why today I’m calling on (
号召
) each of you
to set your own goals for your education and do everything you can to meet them. Your goal can be
something as simple as doing all your homework, paying attention in class, or spending some time
reading a book.
Whatever you decide to do, I want you to commit to it. I want you to really work at it. I know that
sometimes you get that sense from TV that you can be rich and successful without any hard work-
that your ticket to success is through rapping or playing basketball or being a reality TV star. No

Our words have the ability to build our loved ones up and guide our communication in the right
direction. 16 Here are several positive family communication rules you can follow in your home to
avoid the negative results and build loving relationships.
17 Take the time to think about what you want to say before you say it. Make sure your words,
tone(
语气
)and body language can show what you mean.
Tell the truth gently(
和缓地
). It might feel like the right thing to hide the truth to avoid hurting your
loved ones, but being dishonest breaks trust. 18 Being extremely honest hurts feelings, but gentle
truth builds intimacy(
亲密
).
Respect each other's views. Is it more important to be “right” or protect your relationship?
Remember there are a lot of “rights," depending on who you are talking to, so avoid getting caught
up in right vs. wrong. 19 And let others speak. Allowing others to speak until they are finished is a
great rule for everyone to follow.
Be a good listener. 20 Avoid thinking about what you are going to say next. Focus on what is being
said, what your family member might be feeling, and how you can empathize(
产生共鸣
).
B
.
By playing basketball.
D
.
By working hard.
B
.
Everyone’s future is to do simple work..
D

Everyone should pay attention in class.
