三、阅读理解一Reading Comprehension

The statement that Love is blind is all too true. People in

love need to depend on others to help them separate their

idealization of who they think their lover is from the reality

of who their counterpart(对方) really is. That is one reason

why I dont advise Internet dating since it is very difficult

to get realistic impressions of supposed Internet counterparts.

Sadly, students have told me that as soon as people finally

reach the point of marriage, true love dies. I disagree. It is

not the end of true love, but the beginning of realistic love.

I have been married for 21 years in a cross-cultural marriage.

Despite the difficulties of such marriage, I love my wife now

more than ever before. But that does not mean my emotions are

always the same as when I first fell in love. As a matter of

fact, love is more than emotion; its both a decisionand a

commitment(承诺,奉献).

True love must include making a self sacrificial(自我牺牲的)

commitment to always work for another persons good. I like to

think that falling in love is like a match lighting a candle.

It can start a love relationship. But it doesnt hold a candle

to the true lifelong realistic commitment that makes true love

14

last for life. Unlike a candle, true love will not grow tired

and eventually bum out, but will grow ever deeper throughout

a lifetime.

1、People in love usually cant ______ their idealization of

their lover from the reality.

te

t

on

2、

Personally the author ______ Internet dating.

es of

es in

3、

What will happen when some people finally reach the point of

marriage according to the students?

love dies.

a self sacrificial commitment.

realistic impressions.

of the above.

15

4、

What is true Jove according to the author?

's both a decision and a commitment.

is only a kind of emotion.

is a candle.

is blind.

5、

Which of the following statements is NOT true according to the

author?

love includes a self sacrifice.

g in love is like a match lighting a candle.

love will bum out finally.

love will never burn out.

四、阅读理解二

Garden work could mean trouble if you dont rake the proper

precautions. When using any garden tool, we have these safety

tips:

Dress appropriately for the work environment: Wear long pants

and long-sleeved shirts to provide some protection from thrown

objects; wear close-fitting clothes and dont wear anything that

could get caught in moving parts, e. g., loose jewelry; wear

sturdy(牢固的) shoes with slipresistant rubber soles.

16

Walk around the area in which you will be working before

starting lawn and garden work, and remove any objects that could

damage equipment or cause injury or property damage.

Keep children indoors away from power equipment. Children move

quickly and are attracted to mowing(割草) and other power

equipment activity.

Be sure that safety devices on the equipment are in place and

functioning properly before starting work.

Unplug electric tools and disconnect spark plug wires on

gasoline-powered tools before making adjustments or clearing

jams near moving parts.

Be sure power tools are turned off and made inoperable if they

must be left unattended. This will prevent use by children.

Never let young children operate power lawn and garden
