Jason Smith is the principal of Stony brook Intermediate and Middle School in

Warren Township, Indiana. An eighth grade student ended up in his office after

refusing to take his hat off at school. "I sat down with him and asked him why and

what was going on. He said he just got his haircut and didn't like the way it looked.

He thought his hairline looked a little funny," Smith said. So, he offered to cut the

student's hair, if he agreed to go back to class.

"I've been cutting hair most of my life. I played college basketball, cut my

teammates' hair before games, and I've been cutting my son's hair for 17 years. So, I

had professional clippers(理发剪) at home. I said, 'If I go home and get my clippers

and line you up, will you go back to class?' He said, 'Yeah, I will,'" Smith said.

Smith is being praised by many people online after the story and photos were

posted to Facebook. "This morning a student refused to take off his hat and go to class

so he was sent to the principal’s office. Instead of putting the child out of school, this

is what our principal Mr. Jason Smith did after he had a long talk with the student,"

Lewis Speaks wrote. "And guess what happen after that. The student thanked the

Sheep do not normally make news, but a video of a sheep with a huge amount of

hair in Australia has been popular on social media. The sheep had gone wild years ago.

Someone found him 60 kilometers north of Melbourne. The person contacted Edgar’s

Mission Farm Sanctuary near Lancefield, Victoria. The sanctuary rescues and takes

care of animals that are lost or abandoned.

The rescuers named the sheep Baarack. Kyle Behrend is the communications

manager at the Edgar’s Mission Farm Sanctuary. “It seems that Baarack was once an

owned sheep,” said Behrend. He had belonged to an owner before since he had a

mark on his ear called a tag, but it seemed to have been torn out by the thick wool

around his face.

Sheep’s hair, called wool, needs to be cut every year, Behrend said. If it is not, the

wool grows out of control and becomes very heavy. This was the first time that

Baarack’s hair had been cut in many years. Shearers(剪羊毛者) removed 35

kilograms of wool from the sheep.

Behrend said, “Baarack’s feet were in great condition from running over the rocks

in the forest. He was underweight, and because of all of the wool around his face he

could hardly see.” Baarack is now staying with other rescued sheep at the sanctuary,

Behrend said.

after hearing that Houston homeowners had to wait weeks to book a plumber(水管工).

Frozen pipes have caused a lot of damage for Texas homeowners. Many people

have been without water for weeks. “Because of the bad weather in Texas, this

homeowner had frozen pipes and the pipes burst in at least 4 places,” Mitchell wrote

In October 2018, 9-year-old Taka, a Shiba Inu(柴犬), was seriously injured in

the house fire. The family had time to get their kids out, but there was no time to go

back in for Taka. Luckily, Taka was able to run to a neighbor’s house. With deep

burns to his head, face, back, and feet, he needed round-the-clock care.

Because of the medical care that Taka needed, his past owners signed him over to

the vets. They chose not to get him back because of his injuries and not being able to

care for him properly. “I had been taking him home with me every day, so finally I

realized I couldn’t part with him,” said Crystal Lesley, a vet at Care More Animal

Hospital. That’s when Taka officially became Lesley’s. “After months of recovery and

the influence he had on the community, I was found by a nurse at the burn center

about Taka coming in to visit burned children, in hopes of giving them something to

relate to,” Lesley said.

Lesley knew Taka was perfect for the job. “He loves kids and people,” she said.

“I thought about it and decided that he was too special not to share him with the

world.” Taka took his therapy dog training test and passed it. “To see that he could be

an encouragement or at least a light at the end of the tunnel for a child or anybody that

has gone through what he’s gone through is what all of this is about,” Lesley said.

Most people who keep animals choose to have dogs, cats, fishes or small birds.

But Recep Mirzan keeps a different animal on his farm in Western Turkey. The

63-year-old retired postal worker has a swan(天鹅), a large and long-lived bird found

in many parts of the world.

Mirzan saved the swan from a dangerous situation many years ago. Mirzan and a

group of friends were driving in their car when they saw an injured swan with a

broken wing. Mirzan immediately took the swan with him to protect her from

predators. He kept her in the car until that afternoon when he was able to take the

swan to his home. “Since I love animals, I said to myself that I should take her home

instead of leaving her as prey,” Mirzan said.

He named the swan Garip. It means “strange” in the Turkish language but is also

used to describe a person who has had difficulties in their life. After Garip’s broken

wing improved, she stayed with Mirzan. Mirzan is not married and has no children, so

the swan is like a child to him. Garip follows Mirzan wherever he goes.

Garip has been living on Mirzan’s farm for the past 37 years. Garip has never

tried to run away from Mirzan’s farm. According to the group Swan Sanctuary, in

Britain, swans live in the wild for only about 12 years. But in protected environments,

they can live up to 30 years.
