Rice Ball Making Method and Steps:
Ingredients:
- 2 cups of Japanese short-grain rice
- 2 1/2 cups of water
- Salt (to taste)
- Fillings of your choice (e.g. cooked fish, vegetables, pickled plums, etc.)
- Nori seaweed sheets (optional)
Instructions:
1. Rinse the rice thoroughly under cold water until the water runs clear.
Drain well.
2. In a medium-sized saucepan, combine the rinsed rice and water. Let it
soak for 30 minutes.
3. After soaking, bring the rice to a boil on high heat.
4. Once the water starts boiling, reduce the heat to low and cover the
saucepan with a tight-fitting lid. Allow it to cook for about 15 minutes.
5. After 15 minutes, turn off the heat but keep the lid on. Let the rice
steam for an additional 10 minutes to ensure it's fully cooked and fluffy.
6. While the rice is still warm, season it with salt to taste and mix gently to
distribute the salt evenly.
7. Let the rice cool down until it's comfortable to handle.
8. Wet your hands with water to prevent sticking, and then take a handful
of rice and press it firmly in the palm of your hand to shape it into a
triangle or round ball.
9. Create a small indentation in the center of the rice ball and add your
chosen filling.
10. Carefully close the rice ball and reshape it.
11. If desired, wrap the rice ball with a strip of nori seaweed to hold it
together and add extra flavor.
12. Repeat the process with the remaining rice and fillings until they are
all used.
13. Serve the rice balls at room temperature or refrigerate for later
consumption.
