Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region Week
n August 22-24, 2017, with the theme of “Innovative Energy, Silk Grassland”, Inner Mongolia
Autonomous Region week will be held in the China Pavilion. Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region is the
first autonomous region of minority nationalities founded in China. It governs three leagues, nine cities,
two specifically-designated cities and 102 banners/counties(city, district). Inner Mongolia Autonomous
Region has a population of 25,110,000, of which 4,580,000 are Mongolians.
O
General Introduction of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region
nner Mongolia Autonomous
Region
covers a vast in territory.
With an area of 1,183,000 km
2
, which
extends across the “Three Norths”
(Northeast, North China and Northwest
China), there are eight provinces
surrounding Inner Mongolia, which are
Heilongjiang Province, Jilin Province,
Liaoning Province, Hebei Provinces
,
Shanxi Province, Shaanxi Province,
Gansu Province and Ningxia Province.
Besides the large territory, Inner
Mongolia Autonomous Region also has
a long borderline of 4,200 kilometers,
sharing common borders with both
Russia and Mongolia. The straight
distance from east to west is more than
2,400 kilometers, and the distance from
north to south stretches across more than
1,700 kilometers.
Inner Mongolia Autonomous
Region is rich in resources. It has the
largest forests, grasslands and cultivated
farmlands in the country. Many of the
28

resources reserves rank highly in when
compared to the whole country, this
is especially with relation to 30 kinds
of mine resources. Among them, the
explored reserve of coal, lead, zinc, silver
and rare earth precedes all the other
provinces and regions (The proved
reserve of coal is more than 800 billion
tons, and the proved reserve of natural
gas is more than 500 million cubic
meters, as for wind energy, more than
150 million kilowatts are available). The
tourist resources are also wonderful and
unique, with all the natural, historical,
cultural inheritance and ethnic customs.
Being an important economic
hinterland of both the Jing-jin-ji
region and the Bohai Economic Circle,
Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region
is uniquely located, connecting the
economic channel of North China and
the Great Northwest of the country.
There are now 18 open ports, among
them Manchuria and Erlianhot are
separately the biggest land ports
to Russia and Mongolia. In 2015,
Manchuria and Erlianhot were involved
in the country’s project- the construction
of the “Silk Road”.
Inner Mongolia Autonomous
Region has a solid foundation in
developing: the flourishing economic
condition, a united ethnic group,
a peaceful frontier and a stable
society. Under the policy of Western
Development and Revitalizing old
industrial bases in Northeast China,
together with the hard work of all
the ethnic groups in the region, Inner
Mongolia Autonomous Region has
created many good opportunities for
investors. Especially in the recent years,
the comprehensive economic power of
Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region
has been strengthened greatly. GDP of
the whole region has increased to RMB
1,800 billion, with an annual growth of
10%; the general public budget revenue

has increased into RMB 196.35 billion,
with an annual growth of 12.9%. Inner
Mongolia has better economic indicators
than average.
The speed of industrial
transformation and upgrading has
accelerated greatly. After three major
adjustments, the industrial structure
has changed from 9.4:54.5:36.1 to
9:51:40 with reformed traditional
industry, molding new industry and
multidimensional pillar industry. The
output of food has come to 28.27
billion kilograms; livestock is up to 136
million. The conversion rate of farm
and animal products has risen to 58.9%,
enhancing the foundation position of
husbandry. The contribution rate of
high and new technology, non-ferrous
metals, equipment manufacturing and
agricultural product processing has risen
to 49%; power capacity has reached
100 billion kilowatts, including wind
power of 24.25 million kw, which total
generation ranks first in China; the scales
of modern coal chemical industry and
rare earth new materials industry become
the leading row of the country, too. The
capacity of innovation driven development
strengthened prominently. 2,445 scientific
and technological achievements and 18,700
licensing with all kinds of patents have been
obtained. Condition of urban and rural
development, level of regional coordination
development, capability of development
and support, as well as people’s living
standard has been significantly improved.
Each career developed and stood at a new
starting point.
Broad- Prospective for Green Development
nner Mongolia Autonomous
Region is rich in scenery and
natural resources. With a vast territory,
Inner Mongolia has superior conditions
in developing New Energy. China’s
vigorously promotion of the use of New
Energy, together with its earnestly
practice of the concept of Green
Development, Inner Mongolia has
developed into a unique good situation
with the most installation of wind
power equipment and a large scale of
photovolatic power generation.

combustion for electricity, the way
of using new energy for electricity
production saves coal for more than
60 million tons, while reducing smoke
for more than 78 thousand tons, sulfur
dioxide for more than 470 thousand tons
and carbon dioxide for more than 160
million tons at the same time. In this way,
energy was conserved and emission was
reduced, making a positive contribution
to the protection of the region’s ecological
environment .
Achievements
Until
now, Inner Mongolia has
succeeded in developing new energy,
forming wind power as the main way
of electric generation, supplemented by
photovoltaic power generation. Till the
end of 2015, the total transmission ca-
pacity produced by new energy was 31.7
million kilowatts, occupying 30.5%
of all the electric-power generation of
the region. Among the 31.7 million
kilowatts electricity, 24.25 million kilo-
watts were produced by wind power,
4.9 million kilowatts were produced by
photovoltaic power. In 2015, the gross
electric output produced by new energy
was 50.8 million kilowatts, occupying
13% of the whole region’s gross electric
output, 20% of the nation’s electricity
consumption.
In the recent years, the accumulative
output of electricity produced by new
energy is 191.7 million kilowatts.
Comparing to the traditional way of
Demonstration project
Exploring to implement wind
power heating: since 2011, Inner
Mongolia has conducted wind power
heating program trials in Ulanqab,
Chifeng and Tongliao. Wind power
heating means the application of wind
power to provide heat in later winter
nights. Wind power heating not only
replaces the burning boilers to save the
consumption of coal to reduce pollution,
but also keeps people warm. In general,
the results are quite effective, both
environmentally and socially. Till now,
wind power heating system covers 960
thousand square meters in the whole
region.
Photovoltaic facility agriculture:
to overcome the disadvantage of
over-occupied land of photovoltaic
power equipment, Inner Mongolia
has organized Photovoltaic Facility
Agriculture Program. This program
places photovoltaic panels on reinforced
greenhouse to generate electricity, which
realize the utmost use of land. In this
way, the electricity produced by the
panels provides power for the facilities
in the green house to keep a suitable
temperature and humidity, and increase
production in the end. As of now, there
are some demonstration projects in
Hohhot, Bayannur and other places set
up by Qing Dao NESI Photovoltaic
Company, Shanlu Group, Xiangdao
Company etc.
Photovoltaic sand control proj-
ect: in 2011, Elion Resources Group
constructed a 110 thousand kilowatts
ecological photovoltaic program in
Kubuqi desert. This program means
growing plants and feeding livestocks
between photovoltaic panels. Using the
panels as shelters, the strong sunshine
was blocked and the evaporation was
reduced. Hence, the growth of the
plants were accelerated, and the animals
were protected. In the meantime, the
manure of the animals offers organic
fertilizer for the growth of the plants.
Altogether, the panels, the plants and
the animals form a well-functioned eco-
logical circle, realizing the integrative
development of sand control, plantation
and photoltaic power. Besides, Elion
Resources Group is still in construction
of a 200 thousand kilowatts Photo-
voltaic Sand Control Project, which is
estimated to prevent wind and fix wind
for over 20 thousand mu.
