The Role of Media in Our Daily Life

Good afternoon, ladies and gentlemen. Today, I’d like to talk about

the role of media in our daily life.

You may wonder why I chose this topic, and now I will tell you the

reason why. We are living in a fast changing world where information is

almost everything. And the media is a tool that makes the communication

of information possible and convenient. As the media is playing a more

and more important role in our life, it's necessary to discuss the role of

media in our daily life.

Life without media can be very hard. In ancient times, people can

only communicate each other with letters, which cost lots of time and

money. Nowadays, the media is all around us, making our lives better,

even when we may not notice. We read news on papers, listen to music

on radio, watch dramas and quiz shows on TV, surf the Internet or chat,

and we are always introduced to new kinds of media.

However, media is more than a tool for information transportation, it

is also a company which people can invest in and make money. Large and

famous media, like CCTV, often makes billions of dollars each year.

However nowadays, people are beginning to think about another role of

media: a social group. There are various kinds of media. However, all of

them are actually made up of people and they bear the same

responsibilities as our average individuals do. And since media can use its

information to influence large groups of people, they actually take more

responsibilities than us.

Every now and then, we hear news that certain programs be canceled

because of it shows something bad. And when the country is facing

tragedy and disaster, the media is always the first one to stand out. The

media is just like a celebrity, using their power to tell us what to say,

show us what to do, and the most importantly, guide us how to think. And

so, as a celebrity should do, the media should be responsible for what

information it spreads. Right now, we have government censorship now,

but society and the public should use its strong power to decide whether

the media should go or stay.

In conclusion, the media is playing a more and more important role

in society. However, it should always look back to see whether it is

playing its role well. And if the roles are played well, the media is doing a

great contribution to the development of our society.
