My Journey to High School: The English Entrance Exam

Hi there! I'm so excited to tell you all about my experience

with the English entrance exam to get into high school at the

awesome Mianyang Yingcai School. It was a really big deal and I

was pretty nervous, but I studied super hard and gave it my best

shot!

First off, let me give you some backstory. Mianyang Yingcai

is one of the top schools in the whole city for learning English. All

the classes are taught in English and the teachers are from

countries like America, Britain, Australia and Canada. How cool is

that? My parents really wanted me to go there because they

know English is super important these days. Jobs, travel, making

international friends - it opens up so many doors!

So anyway, I found out months in advance that I needed to

take this huge English test to even have a chance of getting in.

I'm talking reading, writing, listening, speaking - the whole nine

yards! My mom and dad were pretty strict about my study

schedule. An hour of English homework right after school, plus

extra classes on weekends. Not gonna lie, it was a grind. But I

kept reminding myself it would be worth it.

The writing section was probably the hardest part for me.

We had to write a short essay on a random topic they gave us. I

struggled putting all my thoughts into words sometimes. My

teacher Mr. Eric helped me a ton though. He had me practice

outlines, drafts, u name it. Slowly but surely, my

writing skills improved.

I'll never forget the day of the exam itself. My parents drove

me to the school bright and early. There were students

everywhere, all looking just as nervous as me! We had to get split

up into different classrooms to take the tests. No cheating

allowed of course.

The listening part was pretty tough. They played these

conversations with all kinds of accents - British, Australian,

American. I had to listen carefully and answer comprehension

questions. Whew, by the time that section was done my brain

was fried! The reading wasn't too bad though. I've always been a

bookworm, so understanding passages is one of my strengths.
