2. 阅读下列短文, 根据其内容写一篇60词左右的内容概要。

While the electric vehicle is over a century old in concept, the modern electric car is far from it, because

the technology is still in development. Sure, there are a few models on the market that you can buy today,

and some have been around for more than a few years.

Unlike internal combustion(内燃) engines, which have gone beyond electrics because of deficient

battery technology at the time, there is a long way to go concerning electric vehicle development. Electric

engines are now smaller, more compact, and more efficient than existing and even theoretical internal

combustion units, while the batteries are getting better and better.

We agree that a vehicle that brings no tailpipe emissions is good for the environment. The problem

today is that people do not like waiting, and it takes much time to charge an electric car, not to mention

planning trips. People really want electric cars today, and they want them to be at least as great as

conventional vehicles. To be fair, these requirements are entirely reasonable from someone that is asked to

pay installments(分期付款) for a few years for an asset that might have a sharp decrease in value. In other

words, unless automakers are willing to devote themselves to updating the existing electric vehicles they

have sold, within reasonable limits—evidently, the electric vehicles on the market today will be out of

fashion in less than ten years.

The resale value of such an automobile could become a significant burden for those that own them, if

anyone will want to buy a 10-year-old electric vehicle. Considering the rapid advancement of electric car

technology, we decided to look away from the bright side of things and think about the worst parts of this

technology.

Ella walked into the kitchen and twirled. She was wearing a new dress and felt like a famous model.

Even better, it was a dress she made! Her very first piece of fashion! "What do you think?" she asked her

family. They all gathered at the kitchen table for an early school breakfast. The scent of French Toast hung

in the air and made Ella's stomach grumble.

"Is that the secret dress you've been working on?" Mom asked.

"Yes! This is it! Don't you love it?" Ella twirled again.

"It's very pretty, Ella. I can't believe you designed and sewed that all by yourself!"

"I'm so proud of you! How long did that take?" Dad said as he reached across the table for the syrup(糖

浆) bottle.

Ella pulled out her chair and sat down. "Two weeks! But I think I could make the next one faster."

"Nice job, Ella! I can't believe you can sew like that! You're only eight years old!" Mom praised.

Ella smiled as she poured some syrup over the pancake on her plate. It was going to be a perfect day.

The kids at school were excited about her dress, and she got some nice comments from some girls, so

she was happy about that. The day went by quickly, and before she knew it, she was outside for the last

class break of the day. What a perfect day! She thought to herself as she swung on the swings. Ella leaned

back in the swing and looked up at the blue sky full of white wispy clouds. She smiled. This would be the

first dress of many that she would make. Some day she would have her very own fashion line with all

kinds of clothes. She would be famous one day.

The school bell rang and the break was over. All the kids were moving slowly toward the door to go

back inside. Ella sat up straight on the swing and waited for it to stop. When the swing was close to

stopping, Ella jumped off. When she landed, she heard a loud rip. "Oh no!" she whispered as she moved

her hand to the back of her dress. It was ripped(撕破) all the way down the back! Everyone would laugh at

her. This was terrible!

注意: 1.续写词数应为150左右;

2.开头已给出。

Suggestions on Campus English Culture Festival

Dear Chairman,

Learning the news that Campus English Culture Festival is scheduled to be held next month, I'm so

pleased that I'll offer my advice.

Firstly, I recommend that an English Speech Contest on cross-cultural communication be planned,

which will be a platform for students to display their capabilities. Besides, we can organize a culture

exhibition of English-speaking countries to broaden our horizons. Additionally, it's advisable to invite

some foreigners to participate in the activity, through which students will develop more interest in learning

English.

Hopefully, my suggestions will be helpful.

Yours,

Li Hua

4.答案:

Paragraph 1:

Ella spotted her teacher, Miss Miller, near the door, calling her into the classroom. Ella stood still, at a

loss what to do. She put her hands behind her and tried to hold her dress shut. Ella shook her head violently,

her face burning with embarrassment. Her very first fashion creation fell apart! Now, all of the kids were

inside the building. Ella took one hand from her dress and waved for Miss Miller to come to her. Sensing

Ella's uneasiness, Miss Miller started walking toward her.

Paragraph 2:

"What's wrong, Ella?" Miss Miller asked when she reached Ella. "My dress. It ripped in the back." Ella

murmured, feeling extremely ashamed. Miss Miller looked at the back of Ella's dress and found the rip.

Immediately, she told Ella to stay still and fetched a needle and thread. Soon after, it was a beautiful dress

again. Uneasiness giving way to excitement, Ella jumped up and down and whirled again and again.

Although it was not a perfect day, Ella would not stop her effort to be a famous fashion designer.
