Good afternoon everyone!

Cities are settlements based on non-agricultural industries and

non-agricultural population. Countryside is an area based on agricultural industry

including natural economy and the first industry, a variety of farms such as

livestock and aquaculture ['ækwəkʌltʃə(r)] and forest production areas,

horticulture ['hɔrtɪ,kʌltʃɚ] and vegetable production areas.

With the continuous progress of industrialization, people began to

unconsciously ignore the existence of countryside. However, from the perspective

of our side, we keep firmly the opinion that people are much happier living in the

countryside than in the city. The reasons are as follows:

To begin with, the amazing and breathtaking pastoral ['pæstərəl] landscape

and natural scenery that only owed by the countryside may be the vital and

decisive factor to keep the majority of rural people continuing living in the

countryside without migrating to cities. As we all know, the modernization brings

not only the civilization progress to us but also the unavoidable damage to the

natural environment for human activities, which is especially active in the cities. All

indicators of the cities’ environment, such as the Particulate [pɚ'tɪkjə,let] Air

Pollution, Electromagnetic：[i'lektrəumæg'netik] Radiation Pollution, Automobile

exhaust pollution are fairly excessive compared with the countryside’s, thus

people in cities can seldom enjoy a healthy and positive living conditions.

Besides, in the countryside, people can also enjoy the deep human touch by

chatting, by visiting each other now and then, by working out group by group,

while the people in cities have no choice but to be a lonely commuter day after

day year after year, thus also making the relationship between them more and

more estranged. There is a survey among 7 cities showing that people’s average

expense on their fare for their commute every month even reach 375 yuan, which

takes 12.5 percent of their income; also in 2008, the rush hour in Nanjing extended

from 3.5 hours to 5 hours and the average speed of automobile is 20 kilometers

per hour. It really reflects the heavy traffic and overburdened transportation, which

discourages people to live in cities.

In addition, there is also a indispensable reason should be responsible for the

happiness derived from the countryside; people in countryside may hardly go to

the supermarket but their daily diet is relatively healthy and secure for which their

food is green food and their water is derived from the ground. In the meantime,

the sudden outbreak of transmitted disease disaster can sweep down the city

easily but the countryside otherwise, for its relatively remote location and the

infrequent exchange with the outside.

To sum up, we maintain quite firmly the view that people are happier living in

the countryside than the cities, owing to its quiet, friendly and harmonious

environment and tight relationship among neighbors and the freedom of going

around and working and the less chance of picking up some disease.
