辨析:

decide是所有英语学习者最早学会的单词之一，其主要意思是“决定”，但原译者忽略了

很重要的一点:decide不只有“决定”这一种含义。decide可用作及物动词，也可用作不及物

动词，并且有许多习惯的用法。例如:

We can't decide anything yet.我们目前还无法决定任何事。

但是“就某事定下来/选定某件事物”要说(lecide on a matter，如:

They have to decide on a proper place for the meeting.他们必须选定一个合适的会面地

点。

选定一个作文题目是decide on a topic (for your composition);决定做某事可以接动词不

定式、that从句，或接wh一疑问词引导的从句作宾语，如:

They decided to attend the meeting.他们决定出席该会议。

I haven't decided where to spend the winter vacation.我还没有决定在什么地方度寒

假。

但表达否定的决定既可以用否定的不定式，也可以用against，如:

What made you decide not to come / against coming with us?是什么让你决定不和我们

一起来?

。在两件事之间作出选择”是 ，如:

They must decide between surrender and starvation.他们必须作出决定是否要投降，不

投降就要挨饿/他们必须在投降和挨饿之间作出选择。

至于decide about something则相当于“就某件事拿定主意”的意思，如:
