Area, region, belt, zone, district, locality 的区别

1. Area和region这两个词能使用范围最广。

1）Area 指整体中较大的，界线不分明的一部分。

① part of a place, town, etc., or a region of a country or the world. （地方、

城市、国家、世界的）地区，地域。例如：

A dialect spoken over a large area在很大区域中说的方言

Desert areas of North Africa北司乍洲的沙漠地区

Mountainous / desert areas 山区；荒漠地区

Rural / urban / inner-city / downtown areas 农村/城市地区；内城区; 闹市区

The local area 本地区

Surrounding area 周围地区

The business area of a town 城市的商业区

② a part of a room, building or particular space that is used for a special

purpose. （房间、建筑物、处所划为某用途的）地方、场地、区。例如：

The hotel reception area 酒店接待处 (前台)

A play / parking / dining/ rest (break) / service area游戏场地；停车场；用餐处；

休息区；服务区

2）region：常指地球上、大气中具有自然分界线的区域，特指按照气候、人体或其

他特征鲜明、自成一体的地区。例如：

Tropical regions of South America南美的热带地区

Polar regions极地

A mountainous / wooded district 山（林）区

The farming district 耕作区

3) belt指区域，常常但非总是用于广阔情况，它单独表达的方面区别于其他词。

An area with particular characteristics or where a particular group of people

Commuter belt 通勤者居住区

Corn / industrial belt 产粮区/工业区

4） zone一个环绕区域，或一个严格定义的区域，常常随意设置边界。

5）district: 表示行政区域

②One of the areas which a country, town or state is divided into for

purposes of organizations, with official boundaries / borders. （区、辖区、行政

区）。例如：

Financial district 金融区

6） locality具有模糊或不确定边界的区域。例如：

① the area that surrounds the place you are in or are talking about. (formal)

围绕所处或提及的地区

The locality of the power station 发电站周围地区

There is no airport in the locality. 这个地区没有飞机场。

The turnout of voters was low in many localities. 在许多地区选民投票率很低。
