commit 与 expose讲解

Unfortunately， although Van Gogh committed his whole being to painting， he received

littlereward for his effort.这个句子的意思是“遗憾的是，尽管梵·高全身心地投入绘画，他所得到

的回报却微乎其微。”动词commit在句中的意思是“投身于某事，专心致志做某事”。

commit一词含义颇多，作为及物动词的意思有：犯（罪），做（坏事）；自杀；承诺，

保证；忠于（某人），全身心投入（工作、活动等）。

常用的搭配还有：commit a crime/ an error/suicide犯罪/做错事/自杀；

commit sb./oneself to sth./doing sth./sb.承诺（做）某事；致力于（做）某事

be committed to sth./doing sth.献身于，致力于

commit oneself to do sth.承诺做某事

例如：No matter how famous you are，you will be punished if you commit a crime.无论你多

有名气，犯了罪就要受到惩罚。

Our national football team started to bounce back from the bottom after they had committedtheir

whole being to training for long.经过长时间全身心投入的训练，我们的足球队开始恢复往日是水

平了。

commit的名词形式是commitment，意思是：承诺，许诺；委任，委托；致力，献身；承

担义务。

例如：Our government has made a commitment that smog will be reduced gradually. 我竹]的政

府承诺：雾霾将会逐渐减少。

此句中expose的意思为“使接触，使体验”。整个句子的意思是“雷德福曾出演并执导过许多好

莱坞大片，但是他希望让大众接触好莱坞之外的影片，否则一般人可能无从看到这些影片。”

expose也是一个学生比较容易用错的单词，常用的意思有：使接触，使体验，使面临；暴

露，显露，揭露。在使用时既可用主动，也可以用被动，常搭配的短语有：

expose sth./sb./oneself to sth.显露或暴露某事/某人/自己于……中；be exposed to sth.接

触……/暴露于……中。

例如：Always remember to expose yourself to the language more if you want to master it.想要

掌握一门语言，你就要永远记得让自己多接触这门语言。

It takes courage to talk to others on the team when that might expose some of your ownignorance.

和团队中的其他人交流需要勇气，因为那有可能会暴露你的无知。

To attract people's attention，the movie Wolf Totem exposed its poster in 3D.为了吸引眼球，

电影《狼图腾》以3D形式曝光了他们的海报。

表示“揭露”时，expose多指揭露丑闻、坏人、坏事或各种阴谋，也可指某物暴露在外。

例如：The corrupt offical bought off those who might expose him.那名接受贿赂的官员收买了

那些可能会揭发他的人。

reveal侧重指揭露一直隐藏着的或隐秘的东西。侧重于这件东西之前的状态是隐藏着的，

不为人所知的，而且这动作是人为的、主动的。揭露出来的可能是好事也可能是坏事。

例如：These few words fully revealed her noble quality.几句话就展示了她的高尚品质。

disclose侧重指揭露或泄露鲜为人知或保密的事。一般disclose揭露的是好事，而且不一定

是人为的，可能是无意识的。

例如：Science can disclose the mysteries of nature.科学可以为我们解开自然之谜。
