Argue 的用法

1．argue可以用作及物动词或者不及物动词，表示“争辩，争论，主张”的意思。

如：

The boy argued with his teacher about his homework.

那个男孩因为作业与老师争执了起来。

Don’t argue about this matter any more. 不要再为那件事情进行争论了。

People in that city argue that their city is the most lively city in the world.

那个城市的人们争辩到他们的城市是世界上最富有生机的城市。

He argued that his son should be a lawyer in the future.

他主张他的儿子将来应该当一名律师。

2．argue经常用于下面的结构中：

argue with sb. 与某人争论

argue about sth. 就某事争论

3．argue, debate, dispute都含有争论，争辩的意思。而且这三个词的词性相同，但

是他们之间在使用上有所差别。

（1）argue是常用词，指某人坚持自己的主张，举出事实和理由说服别人或反对其他

方面的意见。如：

He argued that the earth is round. 他主张地球是圆的。

（2）debate指辩论者各自站在自己的立场公开争论一个问题。如：

Parliament has been debating the financial situation all the time.

国会一直在争论经济形式问题。

（3）dispute指对分歧进行热烈的争辩，双方互不相让，未得到解决。如：

They are disputing the rights and wrongs of this matter.

他们在辩论这件事情的是非。

4．argument是argue的名词形式。

5．argue about与argue on同义，都表示“为某事而争论”，但他们之间也有细微

差别。当涉及非科学性，非严肃的问题时，一般使用argue about。在涉及科学性或严肃

性的问题时，要使用argue on。argue with表示“同某人争论”。此外，argue over和

argue against表示“申明反对”或“据理反对”。如：

Let’s not argue about money. 让我们别为钱争吵。

The two men always argue over politics. 这两个人总在政治问题上争吵。

It is on use to argue on suppositions. 为假设的问题进行争论是没有用处的。

Listen! I am not going to argue with you. 听着!我不打算同你争论。

He argued against the suggestion. 他申明反对这个提议。

6．argue也可以用作及物动词：argue sth。如：

They argued the matter for hours. 对于这件事情他们争论了好几个小时。
