My English Learning Journey
English was always a bit of a mystery to me when I was
younger. All those strange words and funny sounds! But as I
grew older and entered elementary school, I slowly began to
unravel the secrets of this fascinating language.
My very first English class was in the 1st grade. I remember
walking into that bright classroom, filled with colorful posters of
the English alphabet plastered all over the walls. Our teacher,
Mrs. Roberts, was a kind woman with a warm smile that instantly
put us at ease.
"Good morning, class!" she greeted us cheerfully in her
heavily accented English. We all murmured back a hesitant
"Good morning" in return. Thus began my official introduction to
the English language.
Those initial lessons focused heavily on the alphabet, both
reciting it and learning to write out each letter properly. I
practiced diligently, determined to master this new skill. After
what felt like ages of repetition, I could finally recite the alphabet
from start to finish without stumbling. all the way to Z!
I was quite proud of myself.
Next came simple vocabulary words - colors, numbers, basic
nouns like "apple" and "cat." We learned them through songs,
flashcards, and picture books. Gradually, my English vocabulary
began to grow, one word at a time.
In the 2nd grade, we moved on to constructing basic
sentences and conversing in simple dialogues. "How are you?" "I
am fine, thank you." This back-and-forth patter became etched
into my brain through sheer repetition in class. Speaking out the
words and short phrases felt awkward at first, like I was reciting
lines from a play. But the more I practiced, the more natural it
became.
By 3rd grade, I could understand and respond to basic
questions about myself, my family, my likes and dislikes.
Introduce myself and say where I was from. Ask for directions or
order food at a restaurant, if I spoke slowly and carefully. English
was no longer just an abstract curiosity - it was becoming a
method of communication that I could actually use!
4th grade brought reading and writing into the mix. We
started with simple children's storybooks, stumbling through the
