My Hometown's Beautiful Hualien City

Hi everyone! My name is Amy and I'm 10 years old. I'm from

Hualien, a city on the east coast of Taiwan. Hualien is famous for

its stunning natural scenery. I want to tell you all about the

amazing landscapes we have here!

First, let me tell you about the gorgeous Qingshui Cliffs. The

Qingshui Cliffs stretch for over 20 kilometers along the coast.

They are huge rock formations made of marble that rise straight

out of the Pacific Ocean. The cliffs look so majestic with their

layered patterns. My favorite part is Qingshui Cliff Beach where

you can walk along the unique rock formations on the beach.

The marble has been carved into crazy shapes by the wind and

waves over millions of years. It almost looks like modern art

sculptures! I love climbing on the rocks and exploring all the little

tunnels and caves. Just be careful of the strong waves.

Another renowned scenic spot in Hualien is Taroko National

Park. The park covers a long narrow gorge carved by the Liwu

River through an amazing marble canyon. Taroko means

"magnificent and beautiful" in the local indigenous language,

which is the perfect description! The sheer marble cliffs rise over

3,000 meters high on either side of the winding river. They look

almost unreal with their whimsical shapes and tall waterfalls

cascading down. One of the biggest waterfalls is Changchun Falls

which tumbles down nearly 200 meters. You can walk along trails

through the canyon and over suspension bridges high above the

river. It's breathtaking no matter where you look!

I also have to tell you about Liyu Lake, a sky lake nestled high

in the mountains at over 2,600 meters elevation. You have to

hike uphill for over 3 hours to get there from the nearest road,

but it is so worth it! Liyu Lake is an alpine lake with crystal clear

aquamarine water. The color comes from the high mineral

content and makes the lake look almost turquoise or teal.

Around the shores are green meadows covered in wildflowers in

the summer. At the far end there's a crescent-shaped sandy

beach where you can take a dip in the cold, refreshing water if

you're brave enough! Behind the lake rise triangular rocky peaks

that are snow-capped most of the year. It's such a peaceful and

magical place.
