A stage is actually a box. One side of the box has been removed so the audience can see what"s

going on inside. The actors remain at a fixed audience. In the film, however, the camera can bring

the audience up close and fix their attention on small but important things: a frightened look, a

whisper, a trembling of hands.

The camera offers the film maker freedom allowing him to move easily across barriers (界限) of

Most of the animals have little connection with animals of a different kind, unless they hunt them

for food. Sometimes ,however, two kinds of **e together in a partnership (伙伴关系) which is

good for both of them. You may see some birds sitting on the backs of sheep. This is not because

they want a ride ,but because they find easy food in the parasites (寄生虫)on sheep. The sheep

allow the birds to do so because they move the cause of discomfort. So although they can live

without each other, they do better together.

Sometimes an animal has a plant partner. The relationship develops until the two partners cannot

live without each other. This is so in the corals (珊瑚) of the sea. In their skins there are tiny plants

which act as "dustmen", taking some of the waste products from the corals and giving in return

Computer people talk lots about the need for other people to become "computer-literate". But not

all experts (专家) think it a good idea.

One pioneer, in particular, who disagrees is David Tebburt, the founder of Computertown UK.

Though many people see this as a successful attempt to bring people closer to **puter, David does

not see it that way. He says that Computertown UK was formed for just the opposite reason, to

**puters to people and make them" people literate".

David Tebburt thinks Computertowns are most successful when tied to a computer club but he

thinks there is an important difference between the two. The clubs are for people who have

**puter knowledge already. This frightens away non-experts, who want to go to Computertowns

where there **puters for them to operate , with experts to encourage them and answer any

questions they ask. They are not told what to do, they find out. **puter experts have to learn not to

tell people **puters, but have to be able to answer all questions people ask People needn"t **puter

terms (术语). But the experts have to explain in plain language. **puters are becoming"

people-literate".

Students who say they never or hardly ever used dictionaries often speak English well but usually

write poorly, because they make many mistakes.

The students who use dictionaries most do not learn especially well, either. The one who look up

every new word do not read fast. Therefore they do not have time to read much. Those who use

small two-language dictionaries have the worst problems. Their dictionaries often give only one or

two words as a translation of English. But one English word often has many translations in a

foreign language and one foreign word has many translations in English.

The most successful students are those who use large college dictionaries with about 100,000

words but do not use them too often. When they are reading, these students first try to get the

general idea and understand new words from the context (上下文). Then they reread and use the

dictionary to look up only key words that they still do not understand. They use dictionaries more

for writing. If they are not sure how to spell a word, or divide it into syllables (音节), they always

use a dictionary. Also, if they think a noun might have an unusual plural form or a verb might have

an un- usual past form, they check these in a dictionary.

14. The writer ends to (倾向) think that ______.

A. choose a good dictionary, and you"ll succeed in learning English

B. dictionaries are not very necessary to the students who learn English

C. it is very important for students to use good dictionaries properly

D. using dictionaries very often can"t help to improve writing

15. Judging from the passage, which of the following is wrong?
