漫谈书面表达中平行结构的使用

【摘要】英语写作中学生常常忽视平行结构的使用，而利用该形式常常能使

得所写的内容变得凝练，能 表现出独特的魅力，本文从不同方面对此做了一些

归纳，旨在提高学生对写作的能力。

平行结构顾名思义指在结构上常常呈现某种对称的形式。利用平行结构可使

文章的语言由松散变得凝练，从而表现出独特的魅力，读上去给人以美的享受，

同时也使文章赋有一定的文采性。如何在实际写作中巧妙地使用平行结构，以表

现文章的张力，可通过以下的几种形式来达到此效果。

一、利用定语从句的形式表达

在一个段落中分别用两which引导的非限制性定语从句对前面提及的内容

作进一步的说明。既使用了复杂的结构，又起到了对事物的补充说明，而且在语

篇中又起到了较好的连接作用。因此在写作时合理地加以使用可以起到较好的效

果。如：

1、About one third of them feel happy that their parents can trust them, which is

vital for effective communication between them. Next comes the content that their

parents can approach them in an equal position, which accounts for a bit over 30% of

the students.

该段落用两个which引导的非限制性定语从句阐明了父母与子女之间的关

系。父母对子女的信任能促进双方进行有效的交流。父母和子女平等交谈也有利

于子女更好地成长。两个定语从句分别说明了其重要性，使整个段落得到了有机

的连贯，起到了双管齐下的功能作用。

2、As many as 80% of the students are in favor of what the school has done,

saying that we may feel energetic and refresh ourselves with keeping short hair, which

also matches our identity as school students. Besides, keeping long hair may cost us a

lot of time and efforts, which may otherwise be devoted to our study.

该段落主要论述了对学生发型的不同观点。首先阐明短发使人显得精神，并

且与学生的身份也相符。接着笔锋一转又叙述了留长发的不利因素，学生应把精

力放在学习上，而不是注重其外表。两个定语从句分别从不同的角度阐述了学生

对此的观点，形成了较好的平行结构，使人读之明理。

二、利用分词结构的形式表达

除了使用定语从句外，在文章中也可使用现在分词短语的形式来达到平行的

功能作用。现在分词短语的形式在句中可以表达结果或目的，将此形式放在某一

句子后可以起到言简意赅的功能作用，既达到表达的效果又能使所论述内容赋予

完整性。如：

1、Firstly, as many as 3 billion plastic bags are used every day in China, causing

a severe waste of resources. Secondly, the ultra -thin plastic bags get easily broken

and left abandoned everywhere, ending up as litter.

该段落主要论述了在我国使用塑料袋后造成的不良结果，在每一句的后面分

别用分词的形式叙述了资源的浪费和引起的结果，两个分词短语构成了并列的结

构，使人读后觉得有理有节，体现了使用句式的高超之处。

2、The advantages of offering visitors free admission are clear. First, it can help

the citizens to know about revolutionary history and social changes, motivating their

love for our motherland. Second, visiting museums can strengthen the citizens’ sense

of responsibility for society, helping to create a harmonious society.

该段落主要论述了一些博物馆免费对外开放的益处。通过两个分词的形式说

明既可以促进市民对祖国的爱又可以有助于社会的和谐。两个分词分别对前面所

叙的内容加以概括，形成了良好的平行结构，使人读后感觉理由充分。

三、利用介词结构的形式表达

在英语中写作有时也可用对等的介词短语形式来表达此效果。这些介词短语

常常以双重的形式呈现，从而形成对等的结构，从多层次的角度来揭示某一事物，

使所叙述的内容在细节上得到进一步的拓展。使人读后感觉层次分明、结构紧凑、

言之有理。如：

1、On the contrary, others are in favor of the different idea. For one thing, it is

very easy for students to form the habit of dependence. For another, teenagers should

have a good rest during their spare time. Most importantly, it is thought that most of

tutors just want to earn money rather than help these students.

该段落主要陈述了在是否请家教问题上展开的论述。持反对观点的学生认为

请家教一方面会使学生形成一种依赖性，另一方面青少年在业余时间应得到良好

的休息。通过使用两个介词结构的形式论述了对事物的看法，清晰地阐明了个人

的观点。

2、To deal with this situation, I think measures must be taken to protect

intellectual property. On one hand, relevant laws should be passed and those who

produce pirated products should be severely published. On the other hand, we should

raise people’s awareness of protecting intellectual property.
