I have always been fascinated by the animal world. Recently, I read a novel about animals called A
Lion’s Traveling. Chinese writer Shen Shixi wrote it.
The book tells the story of five male lions. They are driven out of their home and begin their
adventure (冒险). Unluckily, one is hurt by a giraffe. Another is killed by a hunter. The third one
dies during a fight for water with a rhino. The fourth lion drowns (淹死). Only the youngest one,
named Red Ribbon, is still alive. After going through many difficulties, he finally becomes the lion
king.
The story shows the love and care between friends, the life and death faced by brothers, the
determination to deal with challenges, and the love for life. The fact that the young lion finally
becomes the king teaches me a great lesson: Those who cannot defeat (打败) you will make you
stronger. Everyone will face lots of difficulties during their lifetime. We should learn to stay strong
and continue to find our better selves.
The book is filled with exciting details about the life of lions. Together with vivid pictures, it gives
readers an immersive (沉浸的) experience. You can not only read the great story but also learn a lot
about the animals in the real world. I highly recommend it!

D.The fights among lions.
39. What has the writer learned from the book?
A.What brings passion to life.
B.We should face up to difficulties and be better selves.
C.We should defeat people who challenge us.
D.How to make friends.
40. Why does the writer recommend this book?
A.Because it has great pictures drawn by famous painters.
B.Because it tells people how to protect animals and the environment.
C.Because it teaches readers lots of scientific knowledge.
D.Because it offers a good reading experience with vivid pictures.
It was December and the snow was falling quietly outside. The four March sisters were sitting
around the fire in the parlor. They were knitting socks for soldiers (士兵). There was a war and
everyone had to help.
Meg was the oldest of the four sisters. She was sixteen. Jo was fifteen. Beth was thirteen. The
youngest, Amy, looked like a snow princess with her blue eyes and blonde hair.
“Christmas isn’t Christmas without any presents,” Jo said sadly.
“I hate being poor!” Meg said, looking at her old dress.
“Some girls have lots of nice things, and other girls have nothing at all,” said Amy. “I don’t think
it’s fair (公平).”
“But we’ve got Father and Mother, and each other,” said Beth.
The four sisters looked happy for a moment when they remembered this.
Then Jo said, “But we haven’t got Father.”
Their smiles suddenly disappeared. Mr March was far away with the soldiers.
“Mother says our men are suffering (遭受) and we mustn’t spend money for joy,” Meg said. “That’s
why we can’t have presents this year.”
“Well, each of us has a dollar to spend,” said Jo. “What can the army do with four dollars? Nothing!
I don’t expect anything from Mother but I’d like to buy a book for myself.” Jo often read and she
had a passion for books.
“I want to spend mine on some new music,” said Beth. She played the piano and she loved singing.
“I’m going to buy a box of drawing pencils. I really need them,” said Amy. She wanted to be an
artist.
“Mother didn’t say anything about spending our own money,” cried Jo. “We work hard for it, so
let’s buy what we want and have a little fun.”
.......
Just then the clock struck six. Beth got up and put her mother’s slippers near the fire to warm.
“Those slippers are very old,” said Jo, “Mother needs some new ones.”
“I can buy a pair for her with my dollar,” said Beth.
“No, it’s my job,” said Jo, “Father told me to take care of Mother while he was away.”
“I have an idea,” said Beth. “Let’s not spend our money on ourselves. Let’s get some presents for
Mother.”
Her sisters thought that this was a very good idea.

Humans (人类) need bees to help grow plants. When these insects visit flowers, they collect pollen
(花粉). Without bees moving pollen from one flower to another, many plants can’t grow fruits.
In recent years, scientists have noticed a sharp drop in bee numbers. What has happened? In brief
(简而言之), the insects have lost their food source. As humans have taken over more and more land
for cities, natural areas have disappeared. Take England for example. It has lost about 97 percent of
its wildflower fields since World War II.
To help out bees, Britain is building “bee bus stops” across the country. These bus stops look
ordinary. But there’s a small garden on each of their roofs (顶部). The gardens are full of flowers.
They attract (吸引) bees. Because the soil for these gardens is heavy, gardeners have to take care of
them twice a year. Other than that, not much is needed to keep the gardens going.
The idea of bee bus stops isn’t new. Several years ago, the Netherlands (荷兰) turned more than 300
of its bus stops into bee bus stops. This project is working. Bee numbers have grown since these bus
stops were put into place, according to research. This is certainly good news for the British
government.
Please answer each question with no more than 10 words. (每题答案不超过10个词)
